Tools

We want to get to know our host, as well as the company: have a look at the comany, the geographical distribution of employees, the size of the company, etc.

Tables and visuals are very useful. Use Tableau, Gsheet, Excel, Ggplot, plotnine, matplotlib, etc.

These tools can be useful for your reports, etc.

Evaluations

1 - Participation - (20%)

Since experiential learning heavily depends on the quality of exchanges between participants, students will receive a participation mark based on their contributions during the course (pre-campus, campus and debriefing session). This includes the quality of their remarks in the course of discussions during seminars, conferences and visits, as well as their general attitude and their behaviour throughout the course.

Students will be evaluated on their active participation in the course at each session, and during the campus.

The evaluation of participation is based on three criteria: attendance, preparation and relevance.

Examples:

Component
I attended all the classes and visits, but was not an active member of class conversations C range
I might have missed one class but compensated with some good insights into class conversations B range
I did not miss classes and I am an active member of class conversations A range

2 - Ambassador of the day (10%)

Organization and goals:

The goal is to develop new skills, while using knowledge and frameworks seen in class (as well as other classes).

For each visit, I will assign one (or two) student ambassadors. A student ambassador needs to prepare and hand in a one-pager about the organization (“the company profile”) that will be visited, needs to give a brief presentation about the organization on the day of the visit, and needs to appropriately act as student representative during the visit.

In the morning, before the visits, we will have a briefing session (15 min) in the hotel lobby (or elsewhere), and we will have a debriefing session (or two) per day (30 min overall). We will have on average 2 visits a day (sometimes 3).

Evaluation Criteria

This organization profile will be evaluated as follows:

I am not expecting a Bloomberg-style company profile. I am expecting a very focused information on the overall company as well as the division we are visiting (for instance: structure, conduct, performance).

3 - Roll-your-own research (30%)

Organization and goals

Students are asked to form teams of a maximum of 3 students and work a research report on a cutting-edge technology. At the end of the campus abroad trip, each team needs to hand in its output. The output can take different forms:

  1. A report of maximum five pages.

  2. A presentation of maximum 15 content slides

  3. A multimedia output: a video, a website, etc.

Evaluation Criteria

The evaluation of the study will be as follows:

30% of the grade will relate to the of the sources (databases) and the of the knowledge quality mobilized (academic and trustworthy references), 70% of the note will focus on the presentation of the report, the choice of economic indicators chosen, how relevant knowledge is mobilized and the overall quality of the presentation of the report, A good example of what I am expecting in terms of style and format (not length, just the structure, the format, the data and the visuals): https://www.die-gdi.de/uploads/media/DP_27.2017.pdf

4 - Post-campus reflection paper (40 %)

At the end of the campus abroad trip, each student needs to write an individual report of 4 pages. Specifically, each student needs to identify a topic related to doing business in the US and use concepts studied in their Bsc or M.Sc. courses as well as their own experiences during the trip to answer the research question. For example, students could compare the Canadian practice with the practices observed in the US. 30% of the grade will relate to the of the sources (databases) and the of the knowledge quality mobilized (academic and trustworthy references), 70% of the note will focus on the of the report, the choice of economic indicators chosen, how relevant knowledge is mobilized and the overall quality of the presentation of the report.

This can be written in a more personal style.
